Virgin Atlantic Airways (London) is planning to appeal to the European Commission the recent decision to permit the IAG to acquire the assets of bmi (East Midlands). Virgin Atlantic also intends to apply for the 12 slot pairs at Heathrow Airport should the appeal fail.

In other news, flight VS 27 from London (Gatwick) to Orlando yesterday (April 16) returned to LGW after a fire was reported, although the airline later disputed this report. The 229 passengers and 13 crew members exited the Airbus A330-300 via the emergency chutes. Four passengers received minor injuries. The incident closed the airport for other traffic for 90 minutes.
